The Aviary Motel

I chose the Aviary Motel from season 3, episode 10 for Sam's room in the A-Frame.  Who could resist its totally whack bird theme?  This mini motel room also featured in a flashback of scenes from that episode, titled "Dream A Little Dream Of Me."
Below, Dean and Sam prepare to drink a potion of African Dream Root.  Behind them you can see the giant headboard featured in this and many other motel rooms, the ornate lamp, forest-y artwork, and very busy bird-patterned wallpaper. 

My mini version of the scene, below.  The art behind Sam is a miniature of a Bob Ross painting.  The art behind Dean is a miniature of a vintage Mattel Little Theater playset.  The shag rug on the floor is a hand towel bought from a thrift store.  The blue bedspreads are cloth napkins, also thrifted.  I could not find anything even vaguely similar to the wallpaper, so I designed my own using bird and leaf stencils.




Below, a maid notices that something is wrong with Bobby Singer.  A glimpse of the wooden room divider with a repeating bird theme is visible behind her.  Above, the same scene in miniature.




I'm not happy with the room divider (above) and will eventually try to re-do it using polymer clay instead of cut out cardboard.

Below, miniature recreations of scenes of the boys searching Bobby's motel room for clues, followed by the original scenes from the show.  Sam's desk is made of wood grain-printed cardboard from an old "study carrel" discarded by the school I used to work at.  The brown wall is egg carton "bricks" glued over paper mache "mortar".

  Previous Episode Read season one from the beginning  here . A few days after his arrival at the A-frame, Bobby sat Dean down to go over his finances... Bobby broached the subject over a few beers in the A-frame's cozy living room.   "The house is in your name,"  he said.  "You're a homeowner, Dean." A homeowner.  The word seemed weighted with responsibility.  Owning a home was far different, he thought, than having a home.  He and Sam had found a home of their own in the Men of Letters Bunker, but they hadn't owned the place.  Strictly speaking, they'd been squatters there, no utility bills or property taxes to pay.  Speaking of which,  "How much is the mortgage?" "That's just it, the place is paid off.  You own it, free and clear."  Bobby took a long swig of beer.  "From what we've been able to find out, you're rich,"  he added.   "How rich are we talking, Bobby?   Am I a millionaire?"...

Free-Standing Mexican Tiled Fountain

  Make your own fountain using recycled cardboard:  For a free-standing fountain you can display wherever you want, cut a back out of two pieces of cardboard in whatever shape you like.  I used the large arch template available  here .  For strength, cut one back piece with the cardboard corrugation going sideways, and one with the corrugation going up and down.  Glue the two back pieces together and set aside to dry. Cut a base for your fountain out of cardboard.  For a rounded base, I traced this jar lid, but you could easily make a square base using a tissue box.  Make whatever shape you want! Roll your semi-circle along a ruler to see how wide a rectangle you'll need to cut from cardboard to form the wall of the fountain pool.  Add a half inch to the length to give some slack.   I cut my fountain wall 2.25" high based on a doll chair because I want my dolls to be able to sit on it.  If you have a lot of long-legged dolls li...
